A couple weeks ago my wife and her former co-workers (and spouses) decided to meet up at Forte for a fun night out. Luckily we had reservations because the place was packed. We were seated in the back next to a huge birthday party, but we didn't care. We all busted out our wine and made a night of it.
We started off with some appetizers - two Caprese salads, two plates of calamari, and most of us also started with a salad. It was all excellent-I LOVED the calamari. I didn't keep track of everyone's meals but Wifey had the capellini with grilled shrimp and broccoli rabe and I had the short rib special they offered that night- basically a short rib stew with mashed potatoes. A couple of the guys had steaks, the person next to me had pasta and sausage and broccoli rabe, there were a couple nice pasta dishes, a Sea Bass meal (giant portion), veal saltimbocca, and at least one Chicken Francese.
If I was dedicated I would have turned my dInner into two meals, but I had no willpower- I hammered it. I had no idea the food here at Forte was this good. We'll be back soon. -

When I'm "home" in NJ for a visit, Forte is often where my friends and I meet for classic NJ style Italian food, the kind with a thick red sauce and lots of ricotta cheese and melted mozzarella, the kind of Italian food I can not get in Portland, OR, where I now live.
- Cavatelli and Broccoli? Yes, please!
- Chicken or a Veal Marsala? Piccata? Saltimboca? Murphy? Yes, yes, yes!
- Chicken or Veal Parmigiana? Love!
- Stuffed shells? Bring it on
- Baked Ziti? Have to have it.
- Flounder with lemon and capers? I miss you!
- Clams Casino? A NJ staple
- Shrimp Fra Diavalo? Classic and delicious.
When you move to an area that doesn't have the foods you grew up with, foods you assumed were accessible throughout the US, you plan your trips home around getting your fill! Forte is one of the places we gather, sitting in the restaurant section (there is a pizzeria with counter service in the left side) and enjoy our meals family style. Portions are large so there are always leftovers to savor the next day.
We have always had wonderful service, friendly and efficient. -

Forte is a combination of sit down restaurant and pizzeria that you order at the counter and take to an open table yourself. We ordered the antipasto assortment which was very good, with lots of roasted red peppers, salame, olives and other tasty Italian delicacies. The pizza was also very good, perhaps could have used some salt but that was easily adjusted.
The restaurant was pretty busy on a Friday evening with lots of guests sitting outside. It's BYOB so you can economize while having the wine you really want, not just what the restaurant has. It also seems to be a kid friendly place. At the end of our meal we met the owner who was making the rounds to ask what diners thought.
All in all a very solid pizza destination and good place to unwind at the end of a work week. Next trip we have to try the entrees which I'm sure are very good from the look of them. -

If you are searching for some good Italian food and large portions, look no further than Forte. The restaurant is divided into two dining areas, one casual and the other fine dining. Forte also offers outdoor seating. The food options are plentiful, so you are sure to find something that catches your eye. The food comes out pretty quickly, even though the place is pretty busy, particularly around dinner time. The staff members are busy and fast-moving, but nonetheless are kind and attentive to patrons' needs. Portions for all the dishes are very large, and you are certain to leave the restaurant with plenty of leftovers even if you entered starving. The food itself is very good. Particular note can be made for the gnocchi bolognese, which is a hardy meal that will surely leave you satisfied. Forte is a great place to bring your friends and/or family if you are looking for good food.

Their forte is not chicken.
Ordered to go Alla Vodka with chicken and chicken picatta. Both tasted re-heated. The piccata was hard and dry. Disgusting. I ordered on Sunday at 5pm.
